When you create or edit a daily inspection offline, Oversite saves it on your device and marks it Pending Sync until it uploads. The Pending Sync page shows everything waiting to upload, lets you push it to the server, and helps you fix anything that failed. It works with Offline Mode for daily inspections. To set up Offline Mode and create inspections without a connection, see Creating Inspections While Offline.
Oversite uploads your offline work automatically when your device reconnects. You only need the Pending Sync page when you want to check on that upload, push it sooner, or fix a change that did not go through.
What each sync status means
As an offline change moves from your device to Oversite, it passes through these states. You see them on the Pending Sync page and on cached drafts.
Status | What it means |
Pending Sync | The change is saved on your device and waiting to upload. |
Syncing | Oversite is uploading the change to the server. |
Synced | The change uploaded to the server successfully. |
Sync Failed | The change could not upload after several tries and needs your attention. |
How to open the Pending Sync page
Click Pending Sync in the navigation. This option appears when you have changes waiting to upload or when a change has failed. A badge shows how many changes are waiting, and it turns red when one has failed.
The page opens with a summary of how many inspections are pending and how many have errors.
How to upload your pending changes
Start on the Pending Sync page while you have a connection.
To upload everything at once, click Sync All.
To upload one inspection, click Sync on that inspection.
To see the individual changes inside an inspection, expand it. Each change is labeled Create, Update, or Upload.
When everything has uploaded, the page shows that all items are synced.
How to fix an inspection that failed to sync
An inspection marked Sync Failed could not upload after several automatic tries. Fix it from the Pending Sync page once you're back online.
Find the inspection marked Sync Failed.
Expand it to read which change failed and why.
Click Retry failed.
Click Sync to upload it again.
You can also click Open inspection to open it in the inspection wizard and review it. The status changes to Synced once the upload succeeds.
Note: If a change keeps failing, contact support before removing it. Removing a change deletes that work permanently.
How to remove pending changes you no longer need
You can discard offline changes you don't want to upload. On the Pending Sync page, expand the inspection, then choose one:
Click Remove change to discard a single change.
Click Remove all changes to discard every pending change for that inspection.
Note: Removing a change discards work that has not uploaded to the server, and this cannot be undone. Sync first if there is any chance you need the work.
Troubleshooting
My changes are stuck on Pending Sync
Confirm you're back online, so the orange You're offline banner is gone. Then open the Pending Sync page and click Sync All, or Sync on a single inspection.
An inspection shows Sync Failed
The change did not finish uploading after several automatic tries. Open the Pending Sync page, expand the inspection to read the error, click Retry failed, then click Sync once you're back online. Do not remove the change unless you're sure you no longer need it, because removing it deletes your work permanently.
The Pending Sync option isn't in my navigation
It only appears when you have changes waiting to upload or a change has failed. If nothing is waiting, your work has already synced.
Frequently asked questions
Do I have to open Pending Sync to upload my work?
No. Oversite uploads your offline changes automatically when your device reconnects. Use the Pending Sync page when you want to push the upload sooner, check what's left, or fix a change that failed.
What happens if I remove a change?
It's discarded and cannot be recovered. Removing a change deletes work that never reached the server. Sync first whenever you can.
What if a change won't upload no matter what?
Open the Pending Sync page, expand the inspection to read the error, then use Retry failed and Sync once you're back online. Contact support before removing the change, since removing it deletes your work permanently.
